35) Pumpkin Chia Pets

I don't know if it was growing up in the 80's but I have always had a soft spot for chia pets. I still find my self singing the "ch-ch-ch-chia" song every now and then. A few weeks ago I saw chia seeds at the store, they are apparently very good for you and can be used in food for health benefits. However I didn't use our chia seeds for cooking, instead I decided to use them to make our own Halloween chia pets. I'm not sure how or why but we had a weird abundance of these plastic jack-o-lanterns. While putting them away I realized they had a hole in the bottom which made me think they would be perfect planters. The first thing I did was dig up an old pair of panty hose and cut off the legs. We then took a few handfuls of chia seeds and put them into the toe of the stockings. Next we filled up the rest of the stocking with potting soil, stopping every so often to push down the soil. After the Hose were filled enough to fit into the pumpkin and reach to the top, I tied off the end of the stockings and cut off the extra. I then filled the bottom of the pumpkin with a few handfuls of dirt and inserted the stocking chia seeds up. I let the Bee be in charge of watering since it was almost impossible for her to over water. After a few days (5-7) the seeds started to sprout and very quickly grew into full plants. Now we are the proud owners of two pumpkin chia heads!
