12) 12 Books that Make You Want to Go Outside

The warm weather around here lately has meant that we have been spending most of our time outside. The countless hours playing at playgrounds, gardening, swinging and just walking around has rubbed off on our reading list. Here are some of our favorite books to inspire a little outdoor exploration!

Grandpa Green By Lane Smith- A  lovely story about the life of Grandpa Green told through beautifully illustrated topiary.

The Curious Garden by Peter Brown - We are big fans of Peter Brown's other books so I was excited to see this one. The story of a boy who saves a garden this book is a great Earth Day read.

Birds by Kevin Henkes- We recently took this book out of the library and read it every day! The beautiful illustrations are so kid like and the story is perfect for inspiring some bird watching.

Waddles by David McPhail- The girls love this book about a park dwelling raccoon and his best friends,  a family of ducks. A good story about what happens to the animals we see at the park during each of the different seasons.

Muncha! Muncha! Muncha! by Candace Flemming- This book was on my list of favorite ones to read aloud, but it is also a great book to read while thinking about spring gardening.

The Number Garden by Sarah Pinto- This simple counting book has so much to look at! The Bee loves reading it together and then looking at the pictures by herself.

The Garden of Abdul Gasizi by Chris Van Allsburg- I'm not sure who likes this book better the girls or me. This magical story has one of those open endings that leaves you wondering and the beautiful illustrations of Van Allsburg are always a pleasure.

Charlie Harper: An Illustrated Life by Todd Oldham- This large coffee table book is one of the girls favorites to look at together. The unbelievable illustrations of Charlie Harper are perfect for little kids.

Curious George Flies a Kite by H.A. Rey- We are big Curious George fans and this one has been our spring favorite.

In a Small, Small Pond by Denise Flemming- I love the colorful illustrations in this book all about a the life of a small pond throughout the year.

Seeds by Ken Robbins- The great photos in the book teach kids all about the different kinds of seeds. A fun book to look at before taking a spring walk.

All in a Day by Cynthia Rylant- The illustrations by Nikki McClure just make me want to go spend the whole day outside!
