84) Summer Camp Week 4: Shapes

The beauty of summer break is all the fun stuff you get to do, go to the pool, play with friends, take fun field trips. The downside is that the Bee and Bean get to accompany me on every single errand we need to run. While we have been doing lots of fun stuff we still have to do the everyday, boring kind of stuff. Go to the grocery store, the post office, the bank, the doctors, you know all that kind of fun stuff. To keep the peace while waiting at all these places we have a bunch of games that we play, eye spy, the people game and most recently we have been playing the shape game. The shape game is very simple, each person takes a turn looking around and finding a shape. Sometimes we just look for certain shapes, sometimes it is whatever kind of shape you can find. I have been loving this game lately because everyone can play and it keeps everyone entertained (at least for a few minutes.) Which made me think shapes could also be a good theme for the summer camp, so here are 5 days worth of shape fun.

Monday: Rec Hall
We haven't done this one in a while so I am glad to try it again. The Floor Puzzle is really simple, you can use any kind of blocks, or other objects that you might have lying around (don't have blocks try books.) The only other thing you need is some painters or masking tape. This game is not only fun to play but I love the questions you get from people who come over and wonder why you have a rectangle taped on your floor.

Tuesday: Back in the Bunks
Easy enough to make that even a kid could make them, Velcro Popsicle Sticks are fun to play with and a great thing to have on hand for waiting around and running errands.

Wednesday: Mess Hall
The only thing better then making cookies is Painting Cookies. These are delicious, beautiful and fun to make.

Thursday: Arts and Crafts
Sun Prints are fun and easy to do, they do require a special sun print paper which you can get online or in lots of kid/craft stores. If you can't find sun print paper, cheap construction paper often works well too, you might just have to leave it in the sun a little longer.
If you don't want to get the sun print paper another fun shape craft is Plastic Cup Printing. A good chance to use all the plastic cups that seem to grow in our cabinets.

Friday: Outward Bound
Inspired by one of our favorite children's book author's, Tana Hoban we made a Photo Shape Book. The book was actually the inspiration for the shape game we play. You can certainly play this game at home but it is also fun to take a walk (or play while you are out) and the book part is really optional.
