20) Inspiration: Play Dough

Playing with play dough is something we do every week and sometimes even every day at our house. So I am always looking for another recipe or idea to spice up our play dough play. Here is some play dough inspiration from lots of other great sites and blogs that I can't wait to try out (and just a few that we have already tried and I can't wait to do again):

Our Favorite Recipe:
2 cups of flour
1/2 cup of salt
2 cups of water
4 Tbs of cream of tartar
2 Tbs of vegetable oil
food coloring

Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and vegetable oil in a pot. Add the food coloring to the water (or to make multiple colors knead the food coloring into the dough when it is finished cooking) and stir the mixture over medium-high heat. After a few minutes of stirring the dough will begin to form a ball, at which point you can remove it from the heat. Let the dough cool a few minutes and knead it for a smooth consistency.

  1. This is essentially the same recipe I use, although I just saw one that says to use glycerin. I think you may enjoy that. That's the ingredient that I've been missing that gives the playdough that nice smooth feeling. Thanks for sharing this with everyone.
