This blog has made me realize how much of a winter home body I am, and by association the kids too. In the summertime I have lots of "places to go" posts, in the winter we are all about the "things to make" posts. We did brave the cold winter a few weeks ago to check out a new place to go, The B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore. We have lots of train buff friends who love to go to the B&O but the girls have never really cared either way about trains, so we had never been. But a cold morning over the holidays seemed like a good day to check it out and I was pleasantly surprised by how much our whole family really enjoyed it. The museum is located in south Baltimore, not far from the stadiums, and is open Monday - Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 11am-4pm. The price of admission was a little high at $16.00 for adults and $ 10.00 for children but we did spend the entire morning there and if you happen to have a Maryland Zoo membership you can visit for free during the months of January and February.
The museum is filled with lots of interesting facts and history about trains and the B&O line, most of which the girls did not let us stop to read. They did however love seeing all the model trains. Once we entered the round house, which is an amazing old building, the girls enjoyed checking out train cars, coloring, watching model trains and exploring. They loved the 20 minute train ride on the real train and the old train car with an amazing miniature train replica of Baltimore city. We didn't play outside too much because it was cold but I would like to go check out the outdoor play space and train garden on a warmer day. There was so much to look at and explore we happily spent a long time at the museum and I would love to go back and see some of the stuff I know we missed. Overall definitely worth the visit , train lover or not, you will enjoy it!
It's a beautiful environment.
