Since there has been so much snow talk at our house lately I thought I would make some "snow" play dough. I used our same favorite recipe:
2 cups of flour
1 cup of salt
4 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 tablespoons of vegtable oil
1 cup of warm water
I wanted the dough to be white I didn't add any food coloring but I did add a few (10-15) drops of peppermint extract. I mixed all the ingredients in a saucepan over medium high heat until the dough started to come together and pull away from the sides. I then turned the dough out on the counter to cool a moment. To give the dough a snow-like shimmer I added some silver and white glitter to the dough as I kneaded it. Once the glitter was all mixed in we played. The dough smelled great, I don't know why I associate snow with peppermint but I do. The girls loved the glitter and it really did shimmer like fresh snow.
I love this idea of adding peppermint and glitter to playdough. My four year old would be mesmerised I am sure :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Christie! We just made a batch for my 4 year olds pre-school class and they were all mesmerised too:)
